Central Coast Express Advocate - Get Out
"Soundscapes and stories along with reflections and ballads about the beauty and tragedy of urban pursuits have come to light through the music of Emily Davis. Davis, of Adelaide, described her debut album Moving in Slow Motion as 'kind of like your first child"
James Tyd - 15th August 2007
The Drum Media - "Have You Heard...?"
"I absolutely love Sarah Blasko and her approach to songwriting. Ani Di Franco for her honesty. Legends like Neil Young, Patty Griffin and Bob Dylan who were always completely themselves regardless of what was happening around them. And there's something about Burt Bacharach - I just don't know..."

Blue Mountains Gazette - "Seducing with Soulful Sounds"
"Emily's rich and soulful acoustic melodies will be heard at four live music venues around NSW, including the Clarendon Guesthouse in Katoomba. After reaching acclaim in her home town of Adelaide, Emily (with her trio) is promoting this beautiful album which is a reflection of Emily's finely crafted expression of home truths woven with earthy acousting sounds and hautingly beautiful lyrics."

City Messenger Front Page - "Know Your Roots"
"Some of Adelaide's best rhythm and roots acts are coming home... Davis will be back from her national tour with The Sunday Brides, and speaking from a chilly Melbourne earlier this week said she couldn't wait to get home. "The tour is going really well, Melbourne is always a very good place... but there really is no place like home."

The Standard - Offbeat - "Emily's Dream Debut"

Beat Q+A
"If one was to ignore their ears, what does your music smell, feel, look and taste like?
"It smells like Greek Coffee, it feels like soft round stones, it looks like a deserted highway with an open sky and a tree every 4 miles and it definitely tastes like potato."
Issue #1065 - 23rd May 2007
Profile in Forte Magazine
"When asked about her '07 so far, Emily needs only one word to answer. "Big. Really Big," she laughs with just a hint of surprise, "It's been the year of my life so far." And with the release of her debut album starting to find a loyal following, it's not hard to see why she is so excited."

On Dit Review
Emily Davis captures something in her music. It reminds me of sunrises over Byron Bay, morning fogs in the north east coast hinterland, the sun kissing your skin as you hit the road for that afternoon interstate road trip, sitting outside with some mates under the stars, drinking wine and philosophising until the sun comes up. Indeed, her new album, Moving in Slow Motion, would be a perfect accompaniment to any of these pastimes, and more.
Moving in Slow Motion starts off gradually. The first tracks, ‘Billboards’ and ‘If’, are introspective, beautifully composed and really set the mood for the album. Tracks three and four, ‘Anthems and Odes’ and ‘The Lie’, bring a more upbeat, fun vibe to the CD.
The songs are delivered with truth and beauty that echo moments from Wendy Matthews and Katie Noonan, and the production is so good I found it hard to believe that Emily Davis is, in fact, a home grown talent. Aye, she’s South Australian, and one of the best musicians in her genre that I have ever heard. She had help though. Moving in Slow Motion was produced by Monique Brumby, who also helped out with back-up vocals and guitars. Overall this album has definitely made its mark on me, and I just can’t wait to see how Emily Davis is live.

Sunday Telegraph Review
"Produced by Monique Brumby, this singer/songwriter has come up with a stellar album. Davis has a beautiful voice, whose style resembles Sarah Blasko's sound with a little less pop. Perfect for a quiet Sunday afternoon with a good book and a glass of wine.”

Adelaide Fringe Review
Special guests, ‘Nereeda’ (rock/funk) and the Emily Smart Band (pop/light rock), started the evening and showcased the talents of two highly capable, diverse original bands. Emily Davis & The Sunday Brides, fresh from their weekend gig at Womadelaide, played to a supportive and enthusiastic Wheatie crowd. Emily’s songs not only contain sensitive, well-constructed lyrics and catchy melodies but they are made even more pleasurable by her exquisite voice and charming stage presence. Her live performance exudes a grounded-ness and sincerity that is totally absorbing. Beautifully supported by the ‘Brides’ (Zac Kingston, Steve Pederson, Brian Ruiz and Mel Bonham), performances by this ego-free ensemble are an absolute delight. Visit www.emilydavis.com for gig updates or to purchase the debut CD, ‘Moving In Slow Motion’, a must for any lover of quality, original songs from the heart.

Eleven Magazine Review
'Emily Davis is a quiet force'
"Her album, Moving In Slow Motion, is a wonderous mixture of folk ditties and easy listeners. From the road tripping hum of 'Billboards' to the nicely paced groove of 'The Line', and the haunting stillness of 'Cold', Davis grabs your attention. Her vocals are delicate, smooth and capable. The gentle approach Davis has taken on the album, along with her stirring vocals means there are no hit and miss offerings here. Davis not only proves herself as one to watch but also shows that you don't need a major label behind you to record, produce, and deliver a stunning album."
Eleven Magazine, March 2007
Scene Review
"Acoustic, raw simplicity and passion combine in the reflective story telling of Emily Davis' debut album, 'Moving in Slow Motion'. While the gentle tempo remains constant throughout, this never gets repetitious. With 'Restless in June', 'Particularly Beautiful' and the title track 'Moving in Slow Motion' all in the Triple J Unearthed charts, Davis is certainly one to follow over the coming year."

Rip It Up - Local Hype
"Following the tremendous success of her debut album launch in February 2007, Emily Davis and her band, The Sunday Brides, are all set to do it all over again. ...Playing songs from her debut album Moving In Slow Motion, which presents a feinely crafted expression of home truths woven with earthy acoustic sounds and hauntingly beautiful lyrics, it will be a true pleasure to see her in action."

Blaze Review
"There's a glut of talent in the girl-with-guitar-goes-singing talent pool at the moment. Jewel has much to answer for. Luckily, Emily Davis has talent in spades. The most striking feature of her debut CD is the assuredness in which she delivers her strong material. Some debuts succeed through raw originality of youthful enthusiasm. Davis scores with her glorious melodies and mature delivery, sometimes reminiscent of like-minded Adelaidians, Fruit. The arrangements are at turns sparse and lush, the sign of an artist who is deeply in touch with her work. This is a collection of beautiful songs that you will absorb as I have. We at Blaze love independent artists, and this is a top shelf example of why."

dB Interview
"Despite being relatively new to the local live scene, singer/songwriter Emily Davis has proven on her debut album ‘Moving in Slow Motion’ to exude both rare confidence and a far greater seasoned mannerism in her songs. This is mostly due to her quaint, down-to-earth observational skills as a storyteller, as well as the incredible team of musicians she managed to rally for the recordings, which included Chris Tabone [The Badloves] on drums, two-time ARIA winner Monique Brumby behind the desk and backing vocals, along with Maryanne Window [bass] from Brumby’s band. After all’s said and done, it would be fair to say that the wheels of Emily Davis’ career have been moving anything but slow”

Rip It Up - State of Sound
"Local singer songwriter Emily Davis has a very exciting few weeks coming up - and she couldn't be happier! She's launching her debut CD Moving in Slow Motion at the Governor Hindmarsh, supported by a line-up of talent to be proud of, and then she'll be performing at WOMADelaide followed by being a part of the Adelaide Fringe 2007 at the Wheatsheaf Hotel."
Catherine Blanch - February 22-28 2007
'Moving in Slow Motion' Review
Emily Davis's debut album Moving in Slow Motion is filled with ten beautifully crafted songs with instantly memorable and touching lyrics. Supremely produced by Monique Brumby, Moving in Slow Motion highlights Davis's intense vocals which give an powerful depth to an extensive musical heart.
From the opening track "Billboards" the lyrics stand out and it is difficult not to pay attention to the messages in the "Anthems and Odes" of love and personal struggle. Davis' songs are founded on sophisticated pop tunes allied to intelligent lyrics but it's her comprehensive quality that will see her rank among the best in the singer/songwriter genre.
Even though Moving in Slow Motion opens strongly, each successive well-executed song seems to gather in strength and delivery making it difficult to single out any particular track. "Restless in June" and "Particularly Beautiful" are acutely delightful "Carry You Home" is poetically stunning and "Cold" is so magnificently lovely that it seems like frostbite sinking under the skin.
"Moving in Slow Motion" which certainly touches a chord closes this superb album of alluring vocals and exceptional musical talents including Maryanne Window, Craig Patterson (who also acted as engineer) and Chris Tabone.
Davis is the real deal. Reminiscent in some respects to Natalie Merchant, Davis's songs are soulfully colourful, her voice is smooth and her compositions are mature. With the right song she'll be catapulted to the highest echelons of her profession. On the evidence of Moving in Slow Motion Davis certainly isn't over-cranking and surely major success is rapidly approaching.

Music SA Review
"With
a list of achievements like hers, it's hard to believe that Emily
Davis's upcoming CD launch is for her "DEBUT" LP, Moving
in Slow Motion. Her maturity of sound, professional presence and depth
of talent suggest she's been around a lot longer, and one would be
forgiven for thinking she had more recordings up her sleeve!
After all, Emily and her band “The Sunday Brides” have
just been announced in the line-up for WOMADelaide and will be playing
on Sunday March 11th. And tracks from her LP have already been picked
up for airplay by Nova in Sydney and ABC Radio’s OZTRAX program."

Poprepublic.tv - February 2007
"Emily
Davis’ release baths the listener in acoustic brilliance with
a swath of angelic tracks the likes not seen before in Australia.
Tracks on the album can be compared to Missy Higgins, Kasey Chambers
& more, but Emily has an instant appeal that draws you in to feeling
the journey this storyteller is presenting. A very strong album with
production credits for ARIA Award winner, Monique Brumby, the disc
contains musical artists like Badloves drummer, Chris Tabone, Maryanne
Window from Monique Brumbies band, and of course Monique herself.
A definite education in the finer side of music, Moving In Slow Motion
really gives Emily Davis the cross over potential like Bernard Fanning
has. This makes it our February POPpick."

"2007
has lots of good things in store for Emily Davis. She'll be heading
over to NSW over the New Years period to play at the Peatsridge Festival,
then launching her debut LP at the Governor Hindmarsh on 24th Feb.
The gig will feature her own new band The Sunday Brides, Emily Smart
from Illicit Eve, Susie Keynes of Fruit and special guest and album
producer Monique Brumby all the way from Melbourne. New single 'Anthems
and Odes' is already kicking goals, and has made it onto Volume 14
of the Sounds Like Café Compilation CD, which gets circulated
to around 1200 points nationally. The compilation has been reviewed
with promising praise, with tracks from Magic Numbers, Karma Country
and David Campbell also appearing on the album."

Getting Intimate with Emily Davis
"Q.
What inspired you to become a singer/songwriter? Who are your early
influences?
I don’t think there was one particular event that inspired
me to become a singer songwriter; just a string of unfortunate catastrophes
that made me heartbroken enough to pour my heart out through song.
Music was always around me as a kid too. I remember when I was about
3, sitting on my toy box singing along with my battery operated banjo
singing (with a thick southern American twang) ‘well I come
from Alabama with a banjo on my knee."
Rip It Up Magazine - March 2006
"The
Two More Vodkas Tour is a live music showcase that aims to highlight
some of the best live acts and bands that South Australia has to offer
and it's about to explode at The Famous Spiegeltent stage as part
of the Adelaide Fringe 2006. Feature will be The Emily Davis Band,
Curio, The Dairy Brothers and Krysalis, so we spoke with Emily Davis
to get the low down."
Rip It Up Magazine - November 2005
'"We're
actually filled with glee to be a part of the Two More Vodkas Tour,"
The Emily Davis Band enthused. "The Adelaide original music scene
is about to explode, and it's a fabulous show to be a part of. It's
going to be a massive night with lots of energy, diversity and truly
unique and original sounds. WWe're really lucky to be a part of it.
You don't often get the chance to sample the best of four different
acts on one night, but that's what the Two More Vodkas Tour is all
about. It's an experience as well as a tour. And it's great value
with four bands for only $10 - that's only two vodkas you know."'

you for making our wedding day so special."

"Wow was Easter a hit or what! Nobody wanted to leave and when
departure finally became inevitable bookings were made for Easter
2007. So what happened? We had London Hill Catering doing food in
three different settings; – restaurant style on the verandah,
casual on the lawn - market umbrellas, tables, outdoor chairs, ‘kick
back’ style with picnic blankets & petanque; and Emily Davis,
emerging acoustic singer/songwriter singing outside for everyone to
enjoy and enjoy they did, lingering long into the day – even
‘Clyde’ the cat was so absorbed by Emily’s entertaining
he gave up smooching for food to lie and lull – now that’s
a first!"
Hannah Rantanen - Stringy Brae of Sevenhill (Winery)
"Just wanted to let you know how pleased I was with the band

from customers. Emily’s style suited the event perfectly and
they were very professional."

"Emily Davis has been performing at the FAD Bar and Gallery
for a couple of years and has already established a huge following.
As a soloist, she captivates her audience with her smooth stylings
and quick wit. She is also part of a duo which allows her to further
explore the depths of her unique sound. We are excited about the prospect
of having the full band play here!"
Andrew Dundon - FAD Bar & Gallery
"Emily Davis has performed at the tincatcafe several times over
the past year, generously giving of herself with soulful lyrics, and
succinct performance skills. She has always engendered a very positive
response in our diverse audiences, winning hearts with her gorgeous
smile, and the way she strives to connect with the people during her
performances. She has always been very professional and is a delight
to work with. Emily is one of several artists who will enjoy a residency
as our Sunday artists over the summer season, and her recently recorded
demo has been very popular with our patrons too."

"We have just had the pleasure of having Emily Davis perform
for us at a 40th birthday celebration. She was absolutely fantastic
and ensured that the night was a great success. Emily has a beautiful
voice and a warm personality that really comes through in her performance.
She really brings her audience in and creates a special and intimate
atmosphere.Emily played a wide and varied mix of songs. The list ranged
from classic Pink Floyd and the Beatles to great versions of modern
day hits from the likes of Dido, Cold Play and Green Day, with some
genuinely good originals thrown in for good measure. The music was
honest and real. Emily radiates warmth and is, in our opinion, a star."
